In-vitro fertilization is a miracle treatment for those who cannot conceive naturally. IVF has proven to be a beneficial treatment for a variety of issues. Although IVF can help in many situations, only your consultant can tell if IVF is the right choice for you. If not IVF, there are various other treatments that can help improve the chances of conception. Before performing the IVF procedure, the medical consultant will perform various tests to get your detailed medical history. The tests will help in considering the right treatment and will give a better understanding of success chances.

Here are a few tests that are performed at our fertility clinic in Nairobi before IVF treatment.

Ovarian Reserve Testing

Ovarian reserve testing is basically hormone testing to analyze the quantity and quality of eggs in the ovaries. Primarily three hormones are tested, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), anti-mullerian hormone (AMH), and Estradiol (estrogen). The tests are preferably performed during the initial days of the menstrual cycle and offer valuable information on egg reserve in the ovaries.

Semen Evaluation

Semen Evaluation is as important as egg evaluation. The semen evaluation test is performed to analyze sperm count, quality, shape, and motility. The test is usually performed during the consultation phase only. However, the doctor will recommend the test before the IVF procedure if not performed earlier.

Prolactin & Thyroid Test

Prolactin is a hormone responsible for the production of breast milk in the female body. While it is an essential hormone, too much of it can affect conception. The thyroid plays an important role in various metabolic activities. However, an imbalance of the thyroid can also interrupt conception and lead to infertility. Depending on the test results, the doctor will suggest suitable drugs to improve the chances of conception.

Tests for Infectious Diseases

Any infectious disease can also hinder the success rate of IVF. Both you and your partner will be scanned for any infectious disease at our fertility clinic in Nairobi. The tests will include chlamydia, rubella, HIV, and others.

Uterine Exam

Follicular Monitoring is performed before IVF to examine the uterine lining. Some fluid is injected into your uterus through the cervix followed by an ultrasound to get images of the uterine cavity. Sometimes the doctor might prefer a hysteroscopy in which a tiny, flexible, and thin telescope is inserted into your uterus to create images of the uterine lining. The purpose of the test is to test the condition of the uterus and the uterine cavity.

Mock Embryo Transfer

Mock embryo transfer is like a practice test where a doctor transfers an embryo to find a suitable technique to transfer the embryo successfully. Mock embryo testing helps in analyzing the desired conditions for the procedure to be successful. The test can improve the chances of conception through IVF.

IVF is an expensive and time-consuming procedure and that’s why the best fertility doctors in Nairobi will not proceed before properly analyzing everything. These tests not just help in analyzing the success rate, but also improve the success rate as the doctors can treat any underlying issue in advance.
